The blue sky was clear except for a few lazy clouds that hung just over the far horizon. The early morning sun glinted off the water; it lit the depths with a rich green hue, making it easy for the few lingering seabirds to spot their breakfast. A warm breeze stirred through the air, chasing away the chill that had set in during the night. Solemn stalked closer, ignoring the granules of sand slipping between the pads of his feet and making his fur itch, that was a concern for later when his stomach had stopped its grumbling. He kept his large body close to the ground and with each slinking step he got nearer to his meal. His blue paws left deep prints in the sand as he prowled forward after the delicious scent that had teased his senses for the past couple miles. He clung to the edges of the small sea, using the crashing of the waves to cover his movements. His bright green eyes were intent on the dark shapes of the doe and her fawn as they grazed through the grass just off the sand. His ears twitched and he froze as the breeze shifted a bit, just a little more and the doe’s quivering nose would detect his presence. He wasn’t concerned with the fawn noticing him; this early in the season it wouldn’t have the slightest idea what he was. Standing silently on the shore line he considered his options: he could charge now and risk a drawn out chase if the doe spotted him before he reached the pair, he could circle a little and get out of the wind while again taking the risk of being spotted, or he could sit tight and hope the wind decided to favor him. He picked the last choice; with a fawn as young as that one the doe would no doubt be very shrewd and anyway it wouldn’t be difficult for her to catch sight of his hulking form. For many long moments he stood on the shore, feeling the breeze brush through his fur as he waited for it to shift directions again. He didn’t even blink as a seabird screamed above him, keeping his eyes fixed on the doe as she briefly raised her head to gaze cautiously up at the bird. Finally the breeze changed again, shifting back the way it had been before. Solemn breathed a quick sigh of relief and took the opportunity to creep forward. Eventually he reached the place where the soft white sand gave way to the thick grass and he tread even more cautiously, aware that the slightest error in movement would give away his existence to the doe. He kept closing the distance between himself and the pair of deer, stopping each time he even thought the doe might be looking. Soon he got so close that he could count the light colored spots on the fawns back. He stopped and watched the doe’s long ears flicked back and forth as she browsed through the grass, as her long tan colored legs gracefully carried her just a little closer to him. He could smell her, the scent of the plants she slept on, the milk she was still producing; it made his empty stomach quiver with hunger. He crouched low and braced himself, and then with his muscular legs he heaved himself into the air. The doe’s head came up as his shadow fell over her, her dark eyes wide and her body frozen with sudden fear. At the last second she tried to leap away, but it was too late. His weight threw her to the ground as he landed on top of her. The fawn, startled by the sudden noise, jumped away through the grass. Solemn latched on to her throat, his massive jaws preventing any air from entering her lungs. He twisted around as she kicked out, wincing when one of her black hooves connected solidly with his shoulder. Now it was just a question of who could hold out longer. She kicked at him again and again; but he refused to let go, shaking his head side to side trying to rattle her into unconsciousness. Slowly her kicks became weaker and easier to evade. He waited, breathing through his nose even after her struggles ceased, until he was certain that her heart had stopped beating. Panting, he released her neck, catching his breath and shaking his head to sooth the ache in his jaw before he stood up. Nearby, the fawn was bleating loudly. It paced back and forth, staring at the still form of its mother as it wagged its tail wildly; as he approached it Solemn felt a pang of regret. Before he would have gone for a buck, but that was when he was with a pack. Alone, even as big as he was, he was uncertain he could take down anything larger than a doe. He moved in swiftly, snapping the fawn’s neck before it had a chance to feel any pain, and then he dragged it over to where its mother lay so they could be together one last time. He ate his fill neatly, only making a small mess on the green grass. As his sharp teeth tore meat from bone he considered his situation. Packless and in an area that had plenty of prey, no doubt there would be wolves about as well. On one paw he would be glad to have others to talk to; but on the other paw it could get messy if he intruded on someone’s territory, not that he was too concerned about that, he could handle himself well enough in a fight.

The winds of the beach ripped through the grass as if it had no other priorities but to tousle the fine strands of hair that had originally laid neatly across Ryn'kalu's body. As the wind picked up speed and died down quietly, the she-wolf moved quietly through the area spoken of, blue eyes a calm shade as of now as she looked for her next meal. Though she wasn't honestly that hungry, there were no other wolves about, as far as she had seen, and so just sitting there had proved fruitless.
Ryn'kalu's hard exterior, her head held high and her lithe body moving gracefully and slowly through the reeds, showed that although she was no alpha she found that she dominated above all other loners. She was not interested in the least in being disrespected by a stranger.
The scent of meat and blood filled her nostrils as she slipped past a rock blocking the view of her beach. She paused for a moment, tossing her head in a couple different directions before seeing the brightly colored male dragging off a second deer to his collection. A smug smirk curled around her mint green maw, the black lines that traveled from the corners of her eyes to beneath her jaws twitching as she did so.
Stealthily she moved towards the pile of game, noticing that he had already eaten most of both deer. She wasn't honestly too hungry, but she was surprised that he had eaten both of them himself. There was a lot of meat to one deer, and usually, five or so could feast comfortably on a medium sized stag. That fawn probably could have served about three. Perhaps he had been very hungry.
"And you did not save any for me?" She smirked, striding closer as she said so. She waited for the male to acknowledge her before she said anything else.
oOC; Kind of crappy, sorry! But here's a reply for you c:

Solemn Dusk
As the adrenaline from the hunt wore off his shoulder and ribs started to ache where the doe had battered against him, but luckily nothing was broken or bleeding, he’d just be sporting a dozen hoof shaped bruises for a while. His full stomach rumbled happily as his pink tongue cleaned the blood from his paws and he sighed contentedly to himself, he’d have to find a place to nap while he digested his meal.
"And you did not save any for me?"
Solemn glanced back, his expression showing how startled he was by the voice; he’d honestly thought that he was alone on the grassy plain. The wolf before him was small, but he’d learned a long time ago that size meant nothing, his sister had also been small and yet she’d always found crafty ways to tackle his larger form to the ground. His green eyes gazed behind her, almost expecting other wolves to creep up through the long grass; expecting her pack to show up because from her assertive posture it was clear that she was worthy of being an alpha. He sniffed experimentally at the air and listened carefully, but she was the only wolf that his nose and ears could detect.
He considered her words, looking to the amount of meat that still remained on the carcass of the deer as he did so. Any other wolf might have been annoyed with the familiarity this stranger showed but Solemn merely accepted it; it had after all, been rude of him to assume that he was the only hungry wolf around.
“I’m sorry,” he apologized after a moment of silence, he let his ears flatten back against his head as a submissive gesture and wagged his tail slightly,“I didn’t think that anyone else would want some. If there isn’t enough for you here I would be glad to help you catch something else to eat.”

ryn'kalu
[x] Beneath the gaze of the sun in early morn lay the two wolves, the dead pair of deer, and the fresh waves crashing against the beach to Ryn'kalu's right. And although the sun was high in the sky and the green dewy scent of morning usually caused wolves to be happy and most often caused them to rejudge actions from the night before, all Ryn'kalu wanted to do was get in bed with someone. Despite her denial, Ryn'kalu was a sex addict through and through.
“I’m sorry,”
[x] She chuckled, slanting her body around the top of the deer opposite from the man. "But of course, I am kidding with you, I would not have expected you to have hunted out a meal for me as you hadn't seen me before a mere couple minutes ago," She said smoothly, her liquid voice trilling prettily in the fresh morning air.
“I didn’t think that anyone else would want some. If there isn’t enough for you here I would be glad to help you catch something else to eat.”
[x] His submissive body held a surprise to her. She had expected a slightly more dominant wolf, as loners were usually of rash nature; only the fittest survived. At the soft spoken tone, a slight twang of disinterest swam through her mind.
"Oh but that would be sweet, though of course I am perfectly apt to catch something in my own time. I am not hungry. Though I do wish to hear your name, if you please. Mine is Ryn'kalu, though just Ryn will suffice as I know it's a mouthful,"
[x] She bubbled, her sadistic mind starting to get carried away as she gazed at the dead carcasses on the ground, though she disliked blood. Her eyes traveled to the water, wishing for her normal swampy homelands.

Solemn Dusk
The breeze that had been playing gently with the long grass started to pick up, tossing about gleefully as the clouds on the far horizon started to darken and creep silently across the late morning sky. They hung heavily, their expanding masses promising a great deal of rain later in the day. But for now the clouds were content to loom overhead, being gathered together and shaped by the errant wind.
A pair of wolves stood facing each other, at their paws lay the remnants of a recent meal, though only one of them had wetted his fangs with the fresh blood.
“I didn’t think that anyone else would want some. If there isn’t enough for you here I would be glad to help you catch something else to eat.” The male wolf said, his posture adding truth to the contrite statement.
"Oh but that would be sweet, though of course I am perfectly apt to catch something in my own time. I am not hungry. Though I do wish to hear your name, if you please. Mine is Ryn'kalu, though just Ryn will suffice as I know it's a mouthful,"
“It is a pleasure to meet you Ryn’kalu,”Solemn responded politely, “Solemn Dusk is my name though many have called me Sol. And I didn’t mean to imply any doubt towards your hunting abilities, just that it is easier to eat something that is already dead.”
He closed his mouth quickly to prevent himself from adding a ‘ma’am’ to the end of the sentence. Even after several moons on his own he still adhered to the rules of his old pack when he encountered others of his kind, he had to try really hard to stop thinking of every wolf not related to him as ‘sir, madam, or (if they were around his age) ma’am.’ As he’d found out after one rather awkward situation, other wolves often thought he was either really odd or that he was mocking them.
He watched as Ryn turned her gaze to the dead deer that lay in the grass, unable to read her until her blue eyes looked up toward the crashing waves and he caught the hint of nostalgia that passed across her expression. He followed her gaze to the water, thinking that perhaps she grew near a lake or on the coast though he refrained from asking
Instead he said,“If I may ask, are there many of our kind around these parts?” After all, it would be good to know where the territories were before he trampled past a border or two. His ears flicked a little with displeasure as he scented the distinct tang of rain on the wind that ruffled through his blue fur. He didn’t enjoy rain, not at all. In fact it was one of the few things that he actively disliked. He glanced around his keen green eyes searching for cover.

ryn'kalu
[x] As Ryn peered at him through her azure eyes, she noticed that he was quite unlike the other wolves of Sentenia. Many wolves had an assortment of colors that, although odd, blended nicely together in harmony. As if painted by the spirits of nature, most had soothing patterns to the eye, ones that made sense. But as Ryn looked at Solemn, she saw that he was an odd assortment of blues, reds, greens, and a small amount of yellows. It almost made her eyes hurt.
[x] He was also very polite and friendly. Most of the wolves Ryn'kalu had run into these past couple weeks, ever since her arrival here, had been passive aggressive or at least snappish or mean in some way or another. She herself was not the purest of people, and she knew it well. However, this male before her seemed to be holding back from who he really was, at least slightly. Perhaps he was even more polite than he was letting on to be. Or maybe he was trying not to be horrid towards her. But she doubted that.
“It is a pleasure to meet you Ryn’kalu,”
[x] Ryn bowed her icy, mint green head to him. "And to you, Solemn," She murmured politely, although growing rather bored of the situation.
“Solemn Dusk is my name though many have called me Sol. And I didn’t mean to imply any doubt towards your hunting abilities, just that it is easier to eat something that is already dead.”
[x] Ryn chuckled. "I do agree, but I am not hungry, thank you." She said simply.
,“If I may ask, are there many of our kind around these parts?”
"Now, what do you mean by 'our kind'?" She asked, slipping her front paws forward so that her smooth, lithe body was lying on the ground. "Wolves, or oddly colored wolves? Because there are hundreds of both," She added with a small smirk and a glint to her eye. Perhaps the conversation was actually turning somewhere.

"Now, what do you mean by 'our kind'? Wolves, or oddly colored wolves? Because there are hundreds of both,"
Solemn bristled a bit, his ears flicking with irritation; while he was aware that his coloring was unusual he hated being called odd. Then the anger evaporated like a puddle cast beneath the hot sun; he just didn’t have it in him to hold a grudge for something that probably wasn’t intended as an insult, even if they glint in her eyes made him suspect that it might have been. He looked to Ryn as she lay on the grass.
“Hundreds you say?” he asked sitting as well in order to avoid letting his size dwarf her, “are there many packs then?” He tried to keep the interest out of his voice, but didn’t quite manage to mask it. There was one pack he was concerned with finding, but that was hardly anyone else’s business.
His ears flicked again as from the distance came the sound of rain beating on the waves, he turned towards the sea where the green water was slowly darkening as the clouds expanded to encompass that portion of the sky. The clouds hadn’t yet reached him and Ryn yet, but the wind was gradually dragging them closer. To any wolf besides Solemn, the changes in the sky wouldn’t have been noticeable, but his long standing disagreement with the rain had caused him to learn the cloud patterns so he would always know how long he had to find shelter.
He forced himself to look away from the growing mass of clouds, as he didn’t want to be appear impolite and uninterested in what Ryn had to say. He knew the fact that he disliked rain made him weird, as it was a natural occurrence that could hardly be avoided for very long, but then it wasn’t the weirdest thing about him anyways.
"Perhaps we could continue our conversation among the trees." he suggested, motioning in the distance.

ryn'kalu
[x] Ryn watched him bristle at her words. She raised one brow, surprised with a slight smugness that she had insulted him. She felt it as a power, as control that she for a brief moment enjoyed, though quickly got over it a moment later. What, was he offended that she had grouped colorful, odd looking wolves into the same category? She snickered in her mind; he should be used to social lumping at this point. But no matter.
“Hundreds you say?”
Ryn nodded. "Hundreds. More, probably, than anywhere else you've traveled." She said, a hint of mystery seeping into her voice. She rolled back a couple inches onto her side against the cool stone of the boulder behind her, watching as Solemn relaxed himself as well.
“are there many packs then?”
She thought for a moment. "One that has planted it's roots, and another that is brewing in the depths of Terra Ignum. But have you not heard, Solemn? Have you not heard all the controversies?" She raised a brow at him, knowing that at this point he would have spoken about it most likely had he known. She hummed quietly to herself in smug pleasure with the idea that she would be the one to inform him.
"Perhaps we could continue our conversation among the trees."
Ryn sighed, slightly annoyed. She looked up at the clouds he had been pondering over and shrugged her dark green shoulders. "Oh but why, I'm quite comfortable where I am," She pouted, but rolled onto her stomach if the need to stand arose. The mosaicked female grunted as she rose to her feet, deciding against staying on the beach and adhering to his wishes. "If you are seeking a pack, it all has to do with where your beliefs lie in this upcoming age of opinionated people." She said simply as she began walking towards the woods.
Ooc; Ohhh my gosh I'm so sorry this took forever to get up, I totally forgot about it. ;-; My badd! <3
